8 persons were arrested after a brutal incident beside the Kanchrapara railway station. On 31st October around 4 a.m., 8 persons gang raped a 19 years old newlywed bride in front of her husband. They brutally beat up her husband to snatch the woman from him.
According to the police, the couple got married despite the opposition from their family members and relatives. So, the couple was thrown out from their Kalyani house by the family. They do not have any identified source of livelihood. For this reason, they took shelter in the nearby Kanchrapara Railway station. But they were even evicted from the station by the railway officials for not having platform tickets or any valid reason to spend night there.
The couple walking through the railway track to reach the overbridge on Kalyani Barrackpore Expressway around 4 a.m. In the mean time some youths came and stopped them. In between 4 and 5 a.m. they drag the newly wed 19 years old bride and take her into a bush beside the railway track and brutally raped her. They also beat up her husband when he came to her rescue from that horrible situation.
All accused immediately flew away after the woman fell unconscious. Later, the couple was admitted to the nearby hospitals by the locals.
Victims lodged a complaint at the Kalyani police station. Following this complaint, police started their investigation and arrested four of them within a couple of hours with the remaining four getting arrested around noon. All of them are residents of Kanchrapara and are daily wage labours.
Superintendent of police of Ranaghat district said in recent events eight culprits had been caught and brought into custody; “They are questioning for finding if the person exists to such criminal incidents by someone”.
They appeared at Court. Being presented the guilty individuals got arrested. Produces at this particular incident under remands on the district police force’s 14-day. A Test Identification (TI) parade of the accused will take place on Nov. 4. An officer at Bhabani Bhawan said police would pray for a custodial trial of the accused after filing a chargesheet. The investigation so far has revealed that the gang rape took place between 4.30 am and 5.30 am. “Their families did not accept the marriage. It seems this was the reason why the couple left home and chose to stay the night at a public place and came to the railway station at night. The accused were not known to them,” a police source said. Cops said a medical examination of the survivor had been conducted and forensic experts were being consulted. On Wednesday, a team of three forensic experts visited the crime scene and collected samples. Forensic expert Sandeep Ghosh said, “Samples have been collected from the crime scene based on the gang rape allegation and will be sent to a lab for testing.”
